Four Indian Americans and one American are among the prestigious Padma Awards 2025 recipients. One American, Stephen Knapp, and four Indian Americans – Vinod Dham, Ajay V. Bhatt, Nitin Nohria and Sethuraman Panchanathan – are among this year’s Padma Award recipients.The Padma Awards – one of the highest civilian awards of the country, are conferred in three categories, namely Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri. These awards are given in various fields of subjects/activities, such as- arts, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, civil service, etc. ‘Padma Vibhushan’ is given for exceptional and distinguished service; ‘Padma Bhushan’ for distinguished service of high order and ‘Padma Shri’ for distinguished service in any field. These awards are announced every year on the occasion of Republic Day. The list also includes 10 persons from the Foreigner/NRI/PIO/OCI category.
