Cricket is like a religion in India. At the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the country of 1.4 billion inhabitants won only six medals, and not a single gold. But sports in India have a huge passion. This is estimated to be the case since over the past fifteen years, French company Decathlon brands have spread across India. The French company, which arrived in India in 2009, has developed a network of 129 stores and today Decathlon employs 5,700 people.

Shankar Chatterjee, CEO of Decathlon Sports India, says that with the growing emphasis on fitness and health among Indian youth, the growth potential is enormous. According to a report by market research company Euromonitor, the sportswear market in India is between $8 billion and $9 billion and sports goods sales are between $2 billion and $3 billion.
