Agra : Mehtab Bagh, also known as the Moonlight Garden, is located next to the Taj Mahal. This spectacular garden offers a mesmerizing experience from morning to night. It is said to be the perfect place to enjoy the breathtaking view of the Taj Mahal, without the usual crowds. Legend has it that Emperor Shah Jahan designed this garden so that he could gaze at the beauty of the Taj Mahal. And on moonlit nights, the reflection of the Taj Mahal in the waters of Mehtab Bagh is simply magical!
Built in the Charbagh style, this garden features beautiful white walkways, grand fountains with reflecting pools, and airy pavilions adorned with colorful fruit trees reminiscent of the Paradise Garden. The garden was initially designed in a crescent shape with pools and fountains, but was eventually changed to its current square layout. This was due to frequent flooding in the early 1900s, which damaged many of the old features. The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) restored it to its original state by 1994.
