After Singapore and Hong Kong, the European Union has also banned Indian spice brands MDH and Everest.

In Australia, this issue is under investigation by the Food Safety Agency. Indian government has sought details from the food safety regulators of Hong Kong and Singapore after this ban. The government has also sought details in this regard from MDH and Everest companies owners.

The ban on spices of these two companies has been imposed due to the alleged presence of pesticide ‘ethylene oxide’ in excess of the permissible limits in the spices manufactured by them. The brands had earlier said that their products were safe for consumption. Both these brands are among the most popular spice brands in India. Also, these items are exported to most of the countries in Europe, Asia and North America.
