Maldives and India signed a USD 400 million currency swap deal, strengthening their bilateral ties. The move will help the archipelago nation to address its foreign exchange reserve issues. Indian Prime Minister Modi described India as the first responder for Maldives in times of crisis.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Mohamed Muizzo also launched RuPay card in Maldives.

The two countries have decided to start discussions on a free trade agreement to further strengthen their economic ties. Maldives President Muizzo said that Maldives will always remain a good friend committed to our shared vision of peace and development in our countries and our region.
