Hidden in the heart of Rajasthan, Bera is a small town in Pali district where leopards are found in large numbers but tourists are very few. Bera was hardly known among the wildlife. However, recently it is gaining popularity and is also known as the land of leopards. Photographing leopards in Bera is on every wildlife enthusiast’s to do list. It has a classic landscape with the Aravalli hills dotted with scrubby vegetation like cactus and kikar. The caved hills present here provide a perfect habitat for leopards. The Jawai River and Jawai Dam are located near this village. The result of these two formations is a lake-like water body. A beautiful location amidst the hills is home to many local and migratory birds apart from some of the largest crocodiles.

The entire hill where the leopards reside is a revenue land and has not been declared a wildlife sanctuary. The Government of Rajasthan is in the process of declaring this area a wildlife sanctuary to provide protection especially to the leopard, the rarest species in the forest. more
