US President Joe Biden invoked Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore while describing Prime Minister Modi’s state dinner as a celebration of the great bond of India-US friendship. Joe Biden said that Tagore’s work “inspired great American ideas”.
In 1792, former President George Washington established the first American consulate in Calcutta. Calcutta has more Nobel laureates than any other city, including Rabindranath Tagore, who composed and influenced the national anthems of the two countries. The US President referred to the great literary contribution of Rabindranath Tagore to the modern democratic set-up of the Indian subcontinent. Tagore composed the national anthems of India and Bangladesh.
